Introduction
No Hard Feelings is a romantic comedy, released in 2023 and directed by Gene Stupnitsky. The story is based on offbeat humour as well as light obscenity. Over time, the dynamics between Maddy and Percy grow and in order to become more open to each other they had to start laying down their insecurities to uncover truths that altered their understanding of life and relationships.
Cast & Crew:
Jennifer Lawrence as Maddie Barker: Undoubtedly, Lawrence knows her craft, and here she is able to deliver a stunning comedic performance. Maddie is a very intelligent character but she also has a certain hesitation, Lawrence was able to perform the combination very well. In essence, Lawrence shines.
Andrew Barth Feldman as Percy Becker: Percy has great comedic timing thanks to Andrew. He stands out as the awkward but loveable Percy, bringing to life the complex mix of emotions of a boy on the cusp of adulthood while still grappling with feelings of insecurity.
Laura Benanti and Matthew Broderick as Mr. and Mrs. Becker: Benanti and Broderick take on the role of Percy’s parents- the stereotypical overbearing mother and father, which helps ease the tension through a mildly humorous and endearing take.
Natalie Morales as Sara: As one of the characters closest to Maddie, Sara plays Maddie’s best friend while easing up the emotional side of the plot. In Maddie’s story, Sara adds witty comebacks that compliment the emotional side.
Hasan Minhaj as Doug: Minhaj adds another level while playing Maddie’s previous boyfriend in the film. He ensures to add comedy to different scenes, creating a sense of friendly rivalry at certain moments.
The film is directed by Gene Stupnitsky, previously known for Good Boys, and also worked alongside John Philips in co-writing the film. The duo manages to add a creative break on this romcom with their unusal writing and comedic timing.
