It feels as if time has moved on as its the second film and two years have already passed, however, Arthur fleck seems to still be there bogged down in the Arthkam state hospital as he was before. His life in such dire circumstances is an amalgamation of loneliness and occasional visits from the new therapist, Dr. Harleen Quinzel, who helps him develop an intriguing bond.

At first it appears that Quinzel was only being curious and the approach was clinical. However, soon enough she becomes one of the many to get lost in the chaos that Arthur seems to have created. Their meetings soon become maddening and serve as a distorted fantasy, leading to the Quintel’s delusions of extreme self love and considering herself Harley Quin. Madly in love with her, Quinsel formed a perfect loving and destroyable relationship. There were precise musical components in the movie that explained such emotional dilemmas thoroughly, allowing the audience to understand the events of the downfall.

Cast and Performances: The Pair Appears Together ! A Rogue’s Connect Terms & Conditions

Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck/Joker: This time around, Phoenix once again brings forth a gritty performance which goes to and from endearing to absolutely horrifying. His portrayal captures Fleck’s slow death with such deftness that the audience is left wondering if they should sympathize or dread him. The ideas that his expressions alone portray are captivating – every smile and sneer seems to tell the tales of an assaulted being.

Lady Gaga as Dr. Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn: Lady Gaga’s performance is both nauseating and fascinating. The transformation from a woman who was good at her job although weak in some respects to a psychopathic sidekick is incredibly executed. He also makes an interesting point that in most cases the songs are not there simply as decoration, but signposts marking the moments of her trauma in focus. It is a surreal sequence with an operatic voice, powerful yet elusive, that adds to the feelings associated with the scenes.

Direction and Cinematography: A Gaze to Wonderland Todd Phillips is Geniuses

Direction and Cinematography: A Gaze to Wonderland Todd Phillips is Geniuses This time around Todd Phillips does not hold back and opts for some bold creative choices, mixing the slab of vertical knowledge to the psychological suspense musical, which makes it all even more disturbing. Close up camera angles alongside bold settings magnificently add to the set’s fantasy. Working some colour into the pictures left the drab grey fill behind and replaced it with pulsing vibrant greens when the movie music came to life.

Themes and Analysis: Madness for Two

Aside from the animation and cinematics, what Joker: Folie à Deux is more about, is the pair of Arthur and Harleen who illustrate the psychological term – folie à deux. This leads to the question where does one person’s insanity end and the other’s begin. They do not stand each other’s qualities but exacerbate them: as each one possesses a trauma that is lingering with potential.

The film also brings to light the injustice of society’s inaction regarding grievous mental health conditions. Arm abandonment from social complexes and Harleen being giddily swept off her feet are but steps towards systemic destruction. The translated title ‘madness for two’ appears to be an ominous one.

Critical Reception: A Divided Audience

There has been a great divide of opinions regarding the film. With there being a fair number of critics who lauded the impressive performances of Phoenix and Gaga, in contrast some were turned off by the change of the movie to a musical. Particularly mixed reactions have Phillips’ security taken the shocking flight of Ju- Hoji and High Society Beethoven as many lauded him for the bold storytelling while simultaneously condemning the random tonal shifts thrown in there.

As a film critic Cascio pointed out that the motion picture is “A highly ambitious attempt at a musical” to which he in turn praised the efforts taken to make the movie, but the reactions to the movie were torn. The combination of a psysco-dramatic film with musicals did not sit well with most of the extremes of the fans.

The movie ”Joker: Folie à Deux” depicts the end of an era in Hollywood and Zoë Kravitz’s Penguin and its brother are the movies that contributed tremendously to its making and once combined with Lady Gaga’s Devil’s advocacy and Joaquin Phoenix’s incomparable performance, everyone restaurated their hopes. Even with the feeling that had tranquillised any feeling of disappointment the movie still missed the mark with both the critics and the audience.

The movie was given a budget of upwards of 400 million dollars and Joker: Folie à Deux grossed a little over 206 million in the global box office. Joker did happen to set a new record by grossing an astonishing 39 million dollars in its opening weekend, beating the previous record holder with ease.

When compared to other musicals it received harsh reviews, 56% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 66% on Meta-Critic, these two easily classify the film as mediocre at best. In retrospect, the internet was filled with users feeling angered at the business partnership that was Twilight director’s sable turned to Phoenix and Gaga starring alongside them.

As for the rest, the financial sector followed suit by endorsing the manufacturer, offsetting losses with novice-tier credits.
